I'm Still Standing!

Yesterday, a Hong Kong fisherman called Jesus Christ Wong pulled a body out of the Harbour.  It may not be The Rapture but it's the closest you're gonna get.

But it's been fun, hasn't it!  Best fun I've had in ages, with all these hilarious and joyous "Who's going: who's not" conversations and googling in youtube for Best Zombie Deaths Ever!

However today's a different story. No news anywhere.  There was before-the-event coverage yesterday on Al Jazeera, but then the Spanish banned protesting and everyone came out on the streets in protest and so Al Jazeera went there instead, which meant none of us here in HK got to see any part of the slow dawning realisation that Harold Camping was a true idiot, and that made us all very sad.  We did so want the laugh.

Anyway, today's another day and, as Paul said, "Today's Sunday service will be awkward for the faithful: "What, BillyBob, you still here?", "You, too, Herb? Where's Melvin? That lucky so-and-so ..."

And Ramesh made the wonderful aside: "I'm disappointed. Guess everyone out there was pretending to be religious on the outside and googling for slutty nuns when they got home. They ruined all the fun! Sinners."

And David said "You think this is all funny, but it isn't.  That snake oil salesman Harold Camping wiped out peoples' life savings "donated" to him and his church to spread the word. Yeah, those idiots wiped out their kids' college funds for billboards" but he's always a real killjoy!

But the best comment anyone made was Laura. "Has anyone seen Oprah?"

I read that the guy (and many of his followers) is devastated. Can't help but feel a bit sorry for him/them, in spite of it all.

We're not in the clear yet Denise:

Radio host says world's end actually coming in Oct

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- As crestfallen followers of a California preacher who foresaw the world's end strained to find meaning in their lives, Harold Camping revised his apocalyptic prophecy Monday, saying he was off by five months and the Earth actually will be obliterated on Oct. 21....

Just a thought.
