Sure, it's all up-hill to get there, up a huge number of steep narrow steps, and touristy -to-the-max, but it's still a nice way to spend a spring afternoon, although these days it does come with a warning:
When they're culling all the birds
in the wet markets,
you know you've got to take this seriously.
It's just a pigeon,
but check out that plumage.

There is a huge range of birds from all over the world. Here are only a small sample: (Gerald, see how many you can identify.)

They say this is a PNG parrot,
but it looks hellva like a
Kadavu parrot to me!
And they aren't found anywhere else
in the world except Kadavu!
(Maybe some Fiji person can
verify this for me)

No idea!
Hey, I know one!
These are Pelicans!
These are Pelicans!
But check this one below out. Look closely. Those birds are definitely spooked. And then look up into that cluster of leaves above:
Is that a snake?
But the one below is definitely a snake. We saw heaps of them outside the aviary, trying to find a way in. It was like watching the crowds outside one of HK's more popular sushi restaurants.
Way in?
Every tree in this photo is endemic Fijian.
(Part of the Mystery of the Trees)
(Promise to post that report soon)
Endemic Queensland Weeds!
Gosh, they do get around!
