A Port Douglas Story.

Haven't yet got to Port Douglas as promised. Am currently in Townsville, hours down the coast, but I will try for Sunday.  I want to film the bouncing rocks on Bouncing Rock Beach, because nobody has heard of them and no one believes me that these rocks - real rocks - actually bounce just like balls.

They are classed as Australian National Treasures, by the way, and you get arrested if you remove any - although apparently they don't bounce away from this particular crocodile-infested beach - so thought I'd simply find that beach - which no one has ever heard of - and film them bouncing.

Truly, they are most odd.  And, yes, I have previously seen them for myself.

In the meantime, however, let me tell you a Kele story:

What happened was, the day after the wedding, Kele and Christine drove up to Port Douglas to look around.

While there, they saw the stunning Four Mile Beach, totally empty of people ... except for one point.  There, in the distance, along the entire people-free miles of sand, they saw literally hundreds of people all clustered at a certain point.

Thinking there'd been an accident, Kele and Christine raced down to see if there was anything they could do.  Reached the crowd and saw they were all texting or talking on mobile phones. "What's going on?" Kele asked. "Has there been an accident?"

"No. No. No." some teenager replied "This is the only spot in Port Douglas where you can get phone coverage!"

Do you LOVE?

Later:

Discovered why no one in NQ has heard of Bouncing Rock Beach!  It's because they're lying through their teeth!  What has happened is that so many of the rocks have been stolen over the past few years, they've now taken down all the signposts, removed all references from the books, ploughed up all the access roads and planted them out with thorn bushes, changed the name of the beach to something like Linhurst Beach and when you ask about it, everyone deliberately looks at you like they think you're crazy!

However, if you go to the Explore Australia website they give you the GPD for Bouncing Rock Beach so you can actually find it if you're prepared to go to a LOT of trouble.  And you probably need a boat.  And good luck with the crocodiles!

Much, much later:

Richard and Gloria tried to find Bouncing Rock Beach.  They thought they did, however, despite their 2000 klm round-trip, I am strongly in dispute of this claim.  I remember those rocks as round and the ones they found and think bounce, aren't round and that bouncing is really quite pathetic, although it does make a very nice clunking sound.

Richard is giving me his footage and I just hope it works ...
