Normally, I wouldn't do a review in here of a Hollywood film, and I won't this time either. I just wanted to share something really odd and definitely worth passing on.
Sex and the City, right? Just started here! Packed houses! And it's totally HK, because, like in HK, it's all about women who are too well qualified and sophisticated for the men around them, so spend all their time and energy shopping for labels! The women here really do outclass the men. Like, seriously! And in every way! And they are MAJOR label shoppers too! So, for them, this film is like watching their own lives, right!
However, that's not what is so strange. What was odd, odd, odd, were the enormous waves of hate coming from the entire audience every time Lily (played by Alexandra Fong) appeared on the screen.
If you don't know, Lily is Charlotte's adopted daughter who was sourced from Mainland China! And, from what we could see, she's clearly growing up to be this little WASP princess, a la Charlotte. Well, didn't the audience HATE it! You could practically feel the anger it was that palpable, and you could actually hear all the angry whispering and hissing from every single person in the cinema every time the camera showed Lily in all her pink-and-princessy glory!
The audience didn't mind, however, the Chinese guy cross-dresser, although that was met with stony silence, but Lily they truly and DESPERATELY hated!!! Bet Hollywood didn't expect that to happen! If this was thought as a way into the Mainland Chinese market, they were very, very wrong.
Mmmm, can't download any photographs today. And yesterday I couldn't edit. There is definitely something strange happening in this blogger recently.
