Nadi Floods, Fiji.

Nadi, in Fiji, is currently underwater:

Aerial overview.
January 10th.

Townsville, in Queensland, is as well. If it's from the same low pressure system, as I imagine, that makes it The Mother of All LPSs. Wonder what Al Gore would make of it!

I've been sent photos of both and the Townsville floods are so unimpressive, I won't blog them.

OK, OK, I'll post one so you'll be unimpressed as well:

That'd be the museum cafe underwater.
Never liked the food there anyway.

The Nadi ones however are stunning so, with due apologies and no remuneration to the photographers, let me see if I can post them in here.

Nadi floods.

Sympathy to the folk who'll have to clean up after all that.

Especially this guy!
That sofa set will
have to be tossed!

And heartfelt sympathy to the folks at the Evacuation Centre, Molly's maid in particular who had her house and all her belongings wash into the river and sweep out to sea. That's really very sad. She loved her house and all her things. Let's hope she was insured.

Molly herself is fine with only her laundry going under. Her only current problem is her dogs refusing to go out into the water and so are doing their business inside, which is really smelly and really annoying. Her cats, however, are going out, swimming out to high spots in her garden and pooping there. We all knew cats were fastidious, but who ever knew cats could swim!

Haven't heard from Collette or any other Nadi friends. Kele? Christine? How are you guys doing?

Mmm, most of the photos won't download into this blog because they appear to be locked. That's clever.

But it does, however, mean that you don't get to see lots of shots of Nadi so you can see just how alike Nadi and Luang Prabang are ... apart from one actually being underwater so a comparison at this particular juncture isn't actually fair.

Wait a second: let's see if youtube again comes to the rescue?

And whatcha know. Here we go: (Remember, if possible ignore the floodwater, and just look at the town. Is this Luang Prabang or what?)

However, Fiji's downright insanity is all its own. Check out this Nadi Floods youtube offering:

But it's the madness of my Vanua Loma that make me so love it.

Later: Several Townsville folk say I haven't done their flood justice, so here's another, slightly more impressive photo:

Flinders Street!
Next to Ross River.

Even later: It's been a week and Nadi's still underwater and the floodwater has now turned sour and is beginning to stink. 65,000 people have already lost everything, and folks are saying that all the stuff that's survived but got wet will definitely have to be tossed. Unbearable stench everyplace!

Other towns like Sigatoka, Lautoka, Rakiraki, etc are also underwater and I apologise for my seeming lack of interest and acknowledgement, but I don't know anyone there so am not being informed and updated. Best wishes to you guys too!
