This week's big drama? I have no idea since it's been a totally un-Hong Kong week with no panic about anything. Anger, yes! The melamine, the banks, the crash, Lehman's minibonds. Same ol', same ol'!
New stuff? Lots of anger at Taiwanese protesters attacking the Chinese delegation in Taipei and that's about it ...
... no, wait, lots of crossness about the lift that crashed only days after it was inspected by safety officers.
Yeah, that's my choice for this week: shonky elevator inspections!
Can you imagine? Crashing to the ground only days after the eight cables were inspected and OKed. Naturally, it's an act of faith getting into any elevator, and our only security is our knowledge that safety inspectors do their job ... and then to discover that ... well, maybe they're simply signing off without doing the work ...
Luckily no one was in the lift. There had been a lady in it but she suddenly got a really bad feeling that something awful was about to happen so pressed the button for the very next floor and got out! And the cables snapped only seconds later! Yup, there's a lady who has an angel!!!
So, that's definitely my guess: shonky safety inspections! I'll go out now and get a HK Magazine and see what they've chosen for this week!
Later: HK Magazine has again chosen something stupid from cyberspace. Honestly, they used to be so spot-on with their choices, but these days ... it's like they've got some Generation Millenium-er now doing it for them.
However, there's a really good one off to the side: the Chinese have tipped all the now-unwanted melamine into the rivers ... and now environmentalists are screaming that it's all about to enter into the entire seafood food-chain! Oh, China! China! China! You really are your own worst enemy.
