Totally my favourite TV show at the moment would have to be ... gosh, called something like "Gok's Fashion Fix!" ... Sunday night at 9 anyway! It's a new show out of England, BBC I think, and I love it, crave it, can't bear it to be over, hang out for it all week.
And the reason I love it is:
1) it believes no one should have to spend a fortune to look fabulous,
2) is an hour of fabulous fashion that costs practically nothing,
3) it features The GOK!!
Do you know The GOK? If you don't already love him to death, get into him immediately.
He's a Chinese-English guy who started out doing his own home-produced on-line show which developed an enormous following so got picked up as a reality show which also went mega, and now he's got his own enormous BBC show because ...
... because he's amazing. He's a stylist who knocks together the most amazing looks for pocket change. And, on this show, professional stylists challenge The Gok! Each week, BBC gives a different four famous fashion-folk an unlimited budget to dress a model for a specific occasion and they give Gok only say $100.00 to dress four models, and then everyone goes out to shop, and, once they've got their outfits, dressed and styled their models, the finished product goes out onto the catwalk ... and the audience votes on which one looks the best ... and each week The Gok wins!
And he deserves to win. Yup, every week his models really do look The Best!
Gok shops in High Street. He claims that what you buy there is generally better than what you can get in the high-end luxury market ... or, at least, it can be with a little "goking around", adding a trim here or scrunching a little there or altering the neckline or changing the buttons. And each week his theory is put to the test, and each week he's vindicated.
Last Sunday, they did "Dressing for Red Carpet", and the four other stylists spent about $200,000.00 each, while Gok spent only $200.00 per model. He put together four looks and, yes, every one of them looked totally Red Carpet-Worthy! And, yes, he won again although, this time, he didn't really expect to because the other models were dressed in hopelessly luxurious outfits and spangled all over with diamonds. Still ...
And one of my favourite segments of this show is where someone famous who claims to know fashion is told to arrange five models in order of what they imagine is the cost of what they're wearing. Famous-Person isn't allowed to look at the labels but just has to rank whatever - say, a pair of jeans, or a cashmere sweater - according to how it looks and feels, and it's such a hoot because Famous-Person is forever going "That button looks cheap and nasty so I'm putting that at the bottom." or "Oh, yuk, that fabric feels creepy. That goes at the bottom." and it always turns out that the item they're heaping such scorn on is, say, the Dior or Chanel that costs zillions!
Every week, in this segment, Gok is again vindicated because it forever turns out that, say, a $5.00 pair of jeans is put up at the "most expensive" end, while the $1800.00 jeans are invariably relegated to the bottom.
So you can see for yourself that this show is truly fabulous, as opposed to TRULY FABULOUS, DARLING!, and something you MUST put on your viewing list?
And you MUST get into The Gok. He's astonishing and amazing and so worth watching!
Remember that name: THE GOK!
