First HK tram crash since 1921! It's always been the nicest and safest way to travel. Here's the story from the newspaper, and please note that it happened just down the road from us and right outside the home of The Redoubtable Walkers:
Traffic in Causeway Bay was paralyzed for two hours yesterday afternoon after two trams collided head-on at a busy intersection, injuring 41 people.
Police conducted an investigation to determine if human error was involved, after ruling out the possibility of mechanical flaws.
Senior inspector Lo Wah-ching said police are looking into the possibility one of the trams tried to beat the red light, causing the collision.
One driver and 40 passengers, aged 21 to 80, were taken to Queen Mary, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern and Ruttonjee hospitals.
By last night, 37 people had been discharged and four, aged between 62 and 79, including two women, remained in hospital in stable condition.
The accident happened at 2.25pm when one tram was making a right-hand turn onto Percival Street from Hennessy Road, colliding with another tram heading towards Central.
