Just got a letter from Tracey:
"Hi Denise, Just to put you out of your misery Gerald is safely out of Thailand and is in Ballarat with me until the end of the weekend. He bought me a beautiful ruby ring and a host of other stuff so the only real danger he was ever in was in exceeding his credit card limit."
So Gerald's Big Adventure is officially over. And good on you, Gezza! Glad to see you haven't become too sensible and staid to have jaunty adventures like the Gerald-of-Old!
And, what do you know, the moment you're out of Bangkok I suddenly recall that immediately across the road from the Sheraton, if you turn left, right next to the Chao Prayar, there's a row of old buildings, and beneath one of them is a really strange and beautiful arch, and if you go through it, it leads into a tiny walled area that is sooo like something you'd see in Medieval Europe, so out of sync with the rest of the city that it's worth exploring ... and there's a cafe in there by the riverbank that serves really nice masala tea and ... ooooh boy, a little shop that gives the most sublime foot massages you've ever experienced.
Do you know the place I'm talking about? Or didn't you leave the hotel at all?
